1998 - Wyman-Gordon Cvpress facility explosion.  In December 




1996, a work crew opened a nitrogen pressure vessel (under  5,000 psi) that had not been depressurized, resulting in an accident  that killed eight men and injured several others. Mr. Connelly's firm  was hired by Wyman-Gordon Company, the parent, and Wyman-Gordon  Forgings, Inc., the plant owner. He guided the investigation of the  case, retained all experts, established offices on-site, retained all  files, and reported to management on the cause and origin of the  accident. He also handled all civil litigation that arose from that  accident, and was successful in obtaining a settlement of all claims  within 2-1/2 years of the accident and within l-1/2 years of litigation  being filed. 1991 - Angus Chemical Company complex explosion.  The Sterlington, Louisiana nitro-paraffin plant operated by IMC  Fertilizer, Inc. sustained a catastrophic explosion when a  nitro-paraffin line was inadvertently heated by a compressor fire to the  point of detonation. There were eight deaths and many injuries  resulting from this accident. Cooper Industries, Inc. retained Mr.  Connelly in connection with litigation filed in Houston on behalf of  most of the deceased and many of the injured plaintiffs. Cooper was the  manufacturer of the compressor that was alleged to have initiated the  fire that caused the explosion. Motions for summary judgment for Cooper  were granted that resulted in the company being discharged from the  litigation without any financial payment to the claimants. 1990 – Arco Chemical Company Channelview Explosion and Fire.  Mr. Connelly represented ARCO Chemical Plant in in explosion in 1991.  All claims were settled. Michael Connelly was retained to represent ARCO  Chemical Company, the plant owner, and Atlantic-Richfield Company, the  parent company of ARCO Chemical, in an explosion and fire that killed 17  people and injured a number of others. He participated in the overall  management and strategic handling of all aspects of the litigation and  served as lead defense counsel in several of the civil lawsuits. All  claims were settled.
